I .....I N V I T E..... I N V I T A T I O N S.....
Dear Friends,
I have been making ' SHAGUN ENVELOPES ' from the past 4 years. And this time I thought I must share the making with you all.
These envelopes are unique as they are made from Wedding Invitation Cards.I collect all the invitation cards and make use of the blank side ( where no text is written) to make cute envelopes of all shapes and sizes. I think, this way I am making use of the paper available and not letting it go waste.
I have requested all my relatives to keep collecting all the invitation cards they get. There are still few kilos of all sorts of wedding invitations lying in my little ' Art Room ' in the house.Whenever I get free time, I become creative and try making new items. It is loads of fun as this activity doesn't consume much of time and every time I get a new result.I find it very exciting.
All you need to do is just get started with the raw material available.
1). A wedding invitation card .On an average 3 envelopes can be made out of 1 invitaion.
2). A pair of scissors.
3). Glue.
4). Ribbons, laces, colorful beads and stones, etc for decoration.
5). Alternatively, one can also paint on the envelopes making interesting patterns and pictures.
METHOD :
Step One : Cut out the portion of the card where text is written.
Step Two : Use the available blank side by folding it and making the envelope.
Step Three : Paste the edges neatly and keep for drying.
Step Four : Decorate it in your best way.
Over the years I have made hundreds ,here are a few of them.To have a better view you can click on each of the following photo.
The use of Pink satin ribbon and golden lace on any white envelope gives it a very simple and sober look.
I have put Red,White and Golden beads on the envelope here. To complete the design I have stuck Green stones at the end of each bead line.
On this grey envelope, I have stuck MAULI ( Holy Thread of Hindus that is worn on the wrist after religious ceremonies ), giving it the shape of a leaf. Then I struck few rice grains dipped in turmeric powder ( to give Yellow color). At the center there is small sticker of Lord Ganesha.
This pretty flap has been made to give this envelope a different style.
You can use Golden paint to make floral patterns on your masterpieces.Use of the color Gold gives a very rich and classy effect to the envelopes.
This Red one is my favorite.Golden lace on both the sides compliment the Kundan stone at the center making it look so princely.
And even after all this hard work and effort I'm being teased everytime by My Little Brother Mickey, who says,
" Sis, I Don't Need yr Love (envelope) ...I Need Only the HARD CASH within it to Party with My Girl Friend " ..... :)
Last But Not The Least : I would like to Thank my friend Sumant Dubey for editing the photographs to make them look more presentable.
